Intel was founded in 1968 by Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. Intel was incorporated in California on June 4th under the name “Fairchild Semiconductor.” This name was changed to “Intel” just a few months later.

The founders of Intel had been successful in the semiconductor industry prior to founding the company. In 1957, they co-founded Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation with Sherman Fairchild.

In 1968, Moore and Noyce left Fairchild Semiconductor to form Intel. Initially, Intel consisted of a production plant with 80 employees located in Santa Clara County in California.

Intel’s first major success came when it introduced the world’s first microprocessor on July 18th, 1971. At that time, this chip was called the 4004 and its introduction helped revolutionize electronics technology across many industries. It is estimated that more than two billion people use products that contain at least one of Intel’s microprocessors today!

Revolutionary products

Intel is one of the world’s largest and most respected semiconductor chip makers. The company is responsible for some of the most revolutionary products, such as the first microprocessor, which was launched in 1971, and the Pentium processor in 1993.

Education and community involvement

Intel’s contributions to society are not limited to technological advancements. In fact, Intel has also made significant contributions to education and the local community in Santa Clara County.

Intel has a long history of supporting education. In 2009, Intel began its partnership with TeachForAmerica by creating the Intel Teach program. Since then, more than 900 teachers have been recruited thanks to the support of Intel and TeachForAmerica.

In addition to supporting teachers and their careers, Intel is committed to making sure that children in underserved communities receive access to educational opportunities. In 2000, the company partnered with San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD) on a multi-million dollar initiative to provide technology and digital literacy programs for students at six schools in SJUSD’s Clark Community College District (CCCD). It was one of the largest corporate investments in public education in California.

In addition, Intel offers a wide variety of internships for students from around the world who want an opportunity to gain hands-on experience at a leading tech company like Intel. Interns are given the chance to learn about different aspects of business such as marketing and operations while gaining valuable skills for their future career opportunities.

Additionally, since 1964, Intel has been working with local youth groups through programs like Project STEP (Science Technology Engineering & Math) which give underprivileged youth an opportunity to learn life skills through STEM education.

Conclusion

Intel has been at the forefront of innovation for over half a century and has left its mark on the world in so many ways. The company’s history reflects the scope of its accomplishments and the depth of its contributions—to technology, to business and to society.
